Q:

My mother is 90 years old and has mitral valve prolapse and an absessed tooth, is it safe to let the dentist extract the tooth? I have heard horror stories of people dying from septic shock after such procedures?

Can this happen and should she be prescribed a round of antibiotics before the extraction? Thank you
