Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to us with your question.

The manufacturer of Postinor 2 estimated that Postinor-2 will prevent 85% of expected pregnancies. 95% of expected pregnancies will be prevented if taken within the first 24 hours, declining to 58% if taken between 48 hours and 72 hours after unprotected intercourse.

That is if taken as directed.

Since your partner did not take the second dose, the effectiveness of the pill will be decreased.

Also, this emergency contraceptive prevents a pregnancy before it is established by preventing or delaying the release of an egg from the ovary with the help of a hormone called Levonorgestrel, the same hormone found in many regular contraceptives.

Anonymous, its effectiveness is dependant on where your girlfriend was in her menstrual cycle, meaning did she already ovulate.

If she does not have any bleeding within three weeks of taking Postinor 2, she needs to test for pregnancy and contact her gynecologist.

Regards,
Maryann
