My menstrual cycle started June 17th. It is now July 3rd. It has never lasted this long. Should i be worried?

Hi,

Heavy bleeding during your menstrual cycle is defined by completely soaking through a tampon or pad every 2-3 consecutive hours. Was your bleeding this heavy?

Prolonged periods are defined by menstruation that lasts longer than 7 days.
The average is 4 days, although more or less days is normal.

The medical terms for what you described are menorrhagia for heavy bleeding and polymenorrhea or metrorrhagia for irregular and/or prolonged bleeding (they have more scientific definitions than this!), but just in case you hear those terms by your doctor, you'll be familiar with the names.

Since what you described is a prolonged period of more than 7 days, it would be highly recommended that you call your doctor. Do you have an OB/GYN?

You can read more about irregular, heavy and prolonged periods here.
