Q:

My period is late after taking Postinor 2

Hello,
I was on my 6th day of my cycle (just finishing my period). The condom split so I took the first tablet of postinor2 2 hours later (1am). We then had unprotected sex 6 hours later (7am). I took the 2nd postinor tablet 3 hours later(10am).
8 days later I had heavy bleeding lasting 4 days. Firstly, is this a sign that postinor worked?
Since then i have had no sign of my period.
In the last 2 weeks (aboit 22nd day of cycle) I have had the flu and been unwell. This has all made me quite anxious.
My period cycle is quite irregular.
Thanks for your help in advance

Hi,

Emergency contraceptives are up to 95% effective when taken within 24 hours and up to 90% effective if taken within 72 hours, so the risk is very small. Periods can often be delayed or longer/shorter as a result of ECP. If your period does not arrive in another week or two, test for pregnancy.

Please I just wanted to know if it takes up to 5 day delay after taking postinor 2. I v done d urine test twice but tested negative and I was supposed to see my period on the 11th since I c a 30/31 days cycle. Last month I took postinor after my last cycle n saw my period a week after for two days now it's already 16th and I'm yet to see my period

Hi,

Emergency contraception can cause irregularity; a delay of 5 days (or more) is certainly possible. Some women will get their period on time, others will not. It's recommended to test for pregnancy if you have not gotten your period within a week of the expected time.

Hi,

You had a period in July, so unless you had unprotected sex since then, you wouldn't be pregnant, which your test has indicated. ECP can cause irregularity.

Hi again.

Are you on the pill? If so, you should be taking them as usual, unless your doctor says otherwise. If you are not on the pill, check with your doctor about when you should begin.
