So my last period was late due to stress but when it did come, it was dark brown for the full 5 days. So I got my 'period' on time yesterday, but it's like my last period, all dark brown. I heard that this is a sign of pregnancy, but I've never had sex. However what did happen was I may or may not have got a little sperm on my hands. Walked home and then went to the toilet and wiped my vagina with a tissue with the same hand. What also happened was another time when I washed my hands after touching sperm and tucking my shirt into my trouser, where my hands where very close to my vagina. My Bf also touched my vagina over clothes after washing his hands because of sperm.please help :(. Could this be my period? Or could it be a sign of pregnancy? Im extremely scared and have had no education on this subject at all. Thanks in advance!

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to us. Let me begin by reassuring you that I do not think you are pregnant. Next, your vagina is located inside of your body. Your outer labia, which is the vulva and labia, are the parts you can see and touched with toilet tissue.

Sperm can live outside the body for about 20 minutes. Once the semen is dry, the sperm is dead.
There was never any risk when your boyfriend touched your genital area because you were wearing clothes.

Dark brown discharge is a symptom of “old blood” and/or old uterine lining which did not left the uterus during regular menstrual period. Often the dark brown discharge is just remains of delayed period – most often associated with old endometrial tissues.

When you get a late period or following period with old cellular lining actually removed together with other blood cellular material, you can experience the dark brown discharge instead of period.

Brown discharge is normally just “old blood” that has been oxidized and left the uterus and/or vagina late or later.

Sometimes dark brown discharge could be a symptom of the damage of endometrial cells, or a symptom of endometrial changes because of hormonal dysfunctions.

There are only few causes of dark brown discharge which should be considered as a serious. These are cervical cancer, ovarian cancer and sexually transmitted diseases.

Anonymous, please speak with your gynecologist about this.

Regards,
Maryann
