I only noticed this as I was washing myself in the shower. We all know what we feel like, and I suddenly noticed a bump inside my vaginal lips, right beside my vagina. I have looked at it with a mirror a number of times, it is surely my urethra, and it is enlarged...it actually looks like a teeny little penis head ! (a really teeny one). There is no pain, even when touching it, no burning or itching, no problems when I pee. I went to a male doctor, he didn't see any obvious problem, but he said he did feel a bump inside me, he thought may be a cyst ? I think he didn't have a clue actually, he is going to send me to a gynecologist, but it will take months to get an appointment. I am 48 years old, my period is starting to become irregular, and just as of a few days ago...I think I am starting to get hot flashes! I am very healthy, I have never had any real 'womens' problems, other than occasional itching or burning, but that has been usually after a hot weekend! lol. I have searched all over the internet for some answers, but I only find enlarged/swollen urethra issues that are associated with other symptoms. Has anyone any idea of what may be going on with me ? Thank you !

hello,
i have been searching a numerous amount of websites to try and find a self diagnosis of what i may have.. but i have not yet been successful. like others i have noticed something different about my body and just want to know what is wrong. i have probably left it a lot longer than others but i have been too scared to find out what the answer may be. so, i have found that my vagina is swollen, so swollen in fact that it is hard to enter. i haven't had sex since i noticed the problem, so don't have an understanding that it may hurt during sex and only suffer from one symptoms otherwise, this being a discharge with odor, other than that i am swollen on the inside.
could you please help me identify the problem, as i said i can't find any information that only relates to a swollen vagina?
thanks x

Any luck in figuring out what's going on? I've noticed this as well and it's been a few months hoping it would go away on it's own. I'm going in for an exam this Friday and I guess I'll know then but any insite would be reassuring.

I hope you've figured it out by now since it's been months since you posted, but I have some answers for you as well!
I have the same issue. I am 7 months pregnant with my second child, and have had this "enlarged urethra" for 4 months now. I did some research, and found out that I have a stage 2 cystocele (bladder prolapsed into the vagina) and a urethrocele (urethra prolapsed into the vagina). Most websites say that this is due to extremely poor vaginal tone, which causes the vaginal walls to thin out, and allows the surrounding structures to sag into the vagina itself. My midwife says that doing plenty of Kegels should get my vagina back into shape and provide support for the bladder and urethra, but other websites seem to think that the only solution is surgery. I'm certainly going to try the exercises before I jump into surgery :) I'll let you know if that helps in a couple weeks or months. Hopefully this will all be taken care of before I give birth again.
Hope that helps. Good luck!

Thank you for your comment, I just did some searching and looked at some pictures of the Bartholin's glands. I learned something new today! However, they are not near where my issue is. I am quite sure it is my urethra I am looking at, it is inside my inner lips, right above my vagina. I learned what Bartholin's glands are, and that they are to the right and left of the back outside part of the vagina, but not my issue, thank you.

I am wondering if it is actually your urethra you are seeing, or something like the Bartholin's glands inside your vagina? You said "inside your vaginal lips", so I am not sure if you are referring to your "inner lips" (or labia minora) or inside your actual vagina? The Bartholin's glands have been described as looking like a "teeny penis" inside a woman's vagina, so I wanted to be clear that we are talking about the same part of your body.

So that we are on the same page, here is a written description of what you find inside your vagina, as well as inside and outside of your "lips": Sexual Anatomy of Female from Our Bodies, Ourselves.
And, if you don't mind images of the female anatomy (this is a medical illustration only), this may help as well: Medical illustration of vulva. As you can see, the urethra is inside the labia minora, but not inside the opening of your vagina.

Anyways, it may be your urethra that has the bump on it, or a gland inside your vagina, and I just wanted to make sure you are covering all of your bases with information!
