I am the Leader of a "TOPS" Chapter and a lady just called me and said she has "Steatosis" - she is 225 pounds and about 5'3" tall - she asked about joining our organization and I told her I would do some checking on this disease on the web - but I have not been able to find any form of menu plan what so ever - can you help me?
Thank you, Lorraine

Hi Anonymous,
July 20, 2010 - 8:36amI found this link online that suggests following an American Diabetes Association diet. Weight loss should be gradual at 1 or 2 lbs per week, and of course, "exercise to improve results and increase insulin sensitivity by creating muscle mass" according to this page:

Here is the ADA website link on exercise and nutrition:

Good luck and let us know how it goes for your new member.

She is obviously overweight and her liver sick because of that. What I suggest is that she starts a low fat diet and start using also Orlistat to further reduce the fat intake. Avoid alcoholic beverages as much as possible to not further burden a sick liver. As a food supplement a liver aid and Omega 3 supplements to increase her HDL and decrease her LDL. Hopefully this info is helpfull for her.
