Ok, so i was diagnosed with pmdd. I knew i had something because 2 weeks before my period its hell, anyway been placed on all of the depression meds you can imagine finally found the right one pristiq, the dr also wanted to check my progesterone levels and she informed me that they were low 1. This was 2 weeks before i started my period. She sent me to a compounding pharmacy and they put together progesterone. I started taking 2 weeks ago and feel ok. I also started weight watchers about 7 weeks ago and had steady loss every week. UNTIL 2 WEEKS ago, last week i gained 1.5 lbs and this week 3.5...... MY EATING HAS NOT CHANGED! I am frustrated, that is alot of weight to gain in 1 week, you would think that i was eating big macs every day. So, the question i have is, is this normal for one to gain weight on this type of med? PLEASE HELP!!!!!

after reading all the comments regarding progestron I now know why I was gaining weight. I had a complete hysterectomy a year ago I am 53 couldn't understand why I was feeling worse then I was before the hysterectomy so I went in to a BHRT Center after much review they drew my blood and it came back with very low levels of everything. they told me it's no wonder you feel really bad so I started the program and I do feel much better in many areas however with the progestron I gained weight about 20 pounds I was swollen puffy and my breasts are very sore and tender, I took the progestron in a trohe form 100 mg for about 3 months I had great benefits on sleeping and relief from depression and anxiety on the progestron however it is for me definitely not worth the weight gain swelling and tender breasts. I quit taking it, it has been several weeks now and I feel much better in regards to the side effects of the progesteron and I've even lost weight about five pounds. when I go back into the doctor I will discuss the progestron with him but I will not take it again . this is my decision and I feel I know my body best so good luck to you ladies and I hope that you can find better health and better solutions. Cheryl

HOw long did it take for you to start losing weight after you stopped progesterone? I stopped six weeks ago and still have not dropped the extra weight I gained.

I was diagnosed with PMDD and also put on progesterone cream. After 7 months I have gained 12 lbs despite eating healthier! It's very frustrating! Progesterone cream is fat based and is meant to supplement the fat on the uterine lining provided by the progesterone hormone. So unfortunately weight gain comes with using the cream :( I found that topamax (used for severe migraines) which are usually associated with PMDD has proved significant weight loss. I am off of it now because I couldn't afford both prescriptions, but when I was on topamax I lost 50 lbs in a year!

so - I started Bioidentical Progesterone a year ago - I weighed only 118 lbs when I started it, I felt great, but I was a bit concerned about the sudden increase in weight around my middle and my thighs, I've always had a very flat stomach, and I've never had children. I'm also a former national level athlete and very fit. One year later I now weigh 145lbs!!! This is ridiculous! I was told to stick with it as the weight gain will lesson out once your body has become progesterone dominant - this is BS - I'm fat and unhappy and can't fit into any of my clothes. I feel gross. I am going to quit cold turkey for a month or two and see if my weight drops, if it does, then I know it's the bioidentical progesterone.

You could also be going through perimenopause which can last over ten years. Progesterone cream sometimes can lead to weight gain in the beginning, but if your hormones were changing before that, it could be just that. Sometimes you don't know your hormones are changing. It sneaks up on you; it did on me. I was athletic too, and then I started having sleep issues 8 years ago. I put on 24 pounds the past two years no matter what I did.

the part i hate is not how bad i look but how awful my breathing is - that 30 lb is sitting around middle. i used to be athletic (did my 7 mile warmup on hill, for petes sake), now i can barely walk around the block without feeling exhausted.
