SOMEONE PLEASE HELP!!!!!!

Well I'm 19, in a relationship, not on birth control, and not having a period.

Okay heres the deal. My fiance and I have been trying to concieve for the past few months. So i've been tracking my period and my last period was November 7th, 2009. I completely missed my period the month of december. I took 6 HPT 5/6 came out definately positive. I made an appointment at the doctors, and they gave me a blood test to see. They were positive that i was too, and they werent even going to test for pregnancy because they said HPT are very accurate. Well they called me the next day to say that my results were "normal" and that i was not pregnant.

so now it janurary 6th. I am expecting my what would be next period to come tomorrow. However i have no sympotoms or feeling that it is going to come.

Im very confused as to how my body could trip so many HPT. Arent they supposed to detect the presence of HCG in your body. The hormorn that is not present unless you are pregnant!!!!! How can this be. im going crazy thinking or reasons. I definately had 5 positve pregnancy tests all different brands including First response.

SOMEONE HELP PLEASE

i need answers, could the doctors be wrong? did they mess up my blood test? could it have been too soon to tell?

I really need to know please

Hi bbyboo2u I know exactly how your feeling right now. Im glad to know that I'm not alone in this. Ive been going through a similar situation. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for a very long and dissapointing year. I haven't had my period for a total of 69 days. I took and 2 hpt's that both came out negative. With no signs of a period other than cramping and mood swings I went to my obgyn and asked her if she would perform a blood pregnancy test. She very bluntly told me that she doesnt think that im pregnant (kinda like a slap in the face) and without hesitation told me that she thinks that i may have polycystic ovarian syndrome. She is performing all kinds of blood tests and its driving me crazy not knowing whats wrong. So far all tests are coming back "normal". But it definately isnt normal to not have a monthly period. I have a scheduled pelvic ultrasound on march 9 2010 . but i think i want a second opinion. my husband and I are very eager to start our new family and patience is running low i dont know what to think or what to do.Waiting for results is making me nuts

Cristalmm,

I'm sorry you have been having such a difficult time, coupled with the fact that you have an unsympathetic doctor.

If you are able to see another doctor, it sounds like a good idea. You can seek other health care professionals not just for a "second opinion", but also if your current doctor is not meeting your needs as far as patient rapport, sympathy, listening and understanding...those are reasons enough to seek another doctor.

Is your doctor a specialist in fertility? If not, there are MANY doctors who specialize in this area (not just OB/GYN), and may be a better fit for you.

Please keep us updated on your ultrasound procedure in a few weeks, and if you would like any assistance in finding another doctor in your area (if you live in the U.S., you can provide us with your city, state and we can send you some information. You can also send me a private message, PM, by clicking on my name highlighted in orange, if you prefer to keep this information private).

Hi Alison,
Thank you for your concern. Ive been back and forth on my decision to seek another doctor. So far all of my blood tests have been coming back normal. I'm still waiting on the scheduled ultrasound to rule out PCOS. Not having my period is definately worrying me. It's been about 75 days since my last menstral period. My OBGYN does specialize in infertility but ive also been looking into a nearby endocrinologist named dr barrionuevo. I've heard some good things about him. Im praying that answers are close to being discovered.

I'm glad to hear that you are remaining positive and optimistic...please let us know how your ultrasound appointment goes, and if your doctor is able to rule out PCOS. Seeing an endocrinologist sounds like a good idea, too.

Best wishes!

Bbyboo,

I'm glad you have an appointment with another gynecologist next Tuesday. It's always smart to get a second opinion if you are confused or if you are dissatisfied with your current doctor. However, I want to encourage you to CALL your current gynecologist (the one who hasn't called back), remind her nurse that you really do need her opinion, and ask when she might possibly be able to look at them.

One of the things that may be happening is actually good news -- the doctors are looking at your tests, your ultrasound and your records, they are seeing nothing wrong, and so it becomes a lower priority for them. But yes, you need to keep pushing until you figure out what's going on.

By any chance are you an athlete? Are you underweight?

Has anyone thought to test the levels of your hormones? Estrogen, progesterone, testosterone, possibly even your thyroid hormones, to see if they are within normal ranges? If not, will you also ask the new gynecologist about this possibility?

February 5, 2010 - 8:49am

Well the didnt give me many possibilities of what it could be which makes me upset because i feel that there is something wrong with me and my doctors dont seem to care to figure out what it is...

My regular family doctor looked over my ultrasound results i had them sent to my current gyno but she never called, im going to see a different gyno Next tuesday hopefully she will be able to give me some more specific answers and reasons.

How can they test to find out if a woman is in fact infertile?

Im very confused at this point, i want to know that there is nothing wrong with me because this has been an issue for the last 3 months, not to mention in the begining i was off set by HPT that gave me several false positives. Blood work points to negative and apparently the ultrasound was "normal". If im not pregnant and i dont have ovarian cysts idk what the problem could be.

thank you for your answers and advise, its encouraging and helps to keep me going

Well i had an ultrasound done last week and it came back "normal" my ovaries looks proportioned with no abseses or anything, liver, kidneys, spleen, all that looked good. still no period. Its going on 3 months now. I'm not stressed or pregnant, or gaining or loosing an excess amt of weight....i just dont know what could be wrong with me.

I have an appointment next tuesday the 9th, with a new gyno that my family physician refered me too, supposedly shes very experienced and will hopefully be able to help me figure out what is wrong with me.

i have a couple questions tho...

1:) Is it possible to get pregnant even tho u are not having a period?
-My boyfriend and I do not practice safe-sex because well we wouldnt mind having a baby and if god blesses me with a child i would be absolutely grateful, but is it even possible for me to get pregnant without having a period?

2:) Is is possible that i am infertile at the tender age of 19?
-My biggest fear is that i wouldnt be able to conceive naturally, My mother had a bit a of struggle getting pregnant with me, and i worry that i may have the same problem. I want children so badly that it kills me to think that i may not be able to experience being pregnant.

3:) Is there any way that doctors can missread an ultrasound?
-I had an abdominal and pelvic ultrasound last week and the results came back normal. I was wondering is it possible that they mis-read something? I mean i once had a doctor tell me i broke 2 of my fingers, when i had actually hurt my hand and the injury had nothing to do with my fingers....Could they have not seen a baby in there if it was too soon? Or could they have missed a cyst or something idk i was just curious i mean everyone makes mistakes were only human.

ANY ANSWERS WOULD BE GREAT THANKS!!!!

Not sure if anyone will see this or respond but...

I took a test mid-day a couple weeks ago i want to say it was the 9th or so...

the test was negative...

however i can feel movement in my stomach mostly on my left side. It feels almost like a pool ball rolling around on the side of my stomach. Or kind of similar to bubbles or fluttering. I'm not crazy and ive never felt anything like this before. Its kind of extraordinary. If im having a bad day or feeling down and i feel the movement it brings a smile to my face.

and i know i'm going to sound insane when i say this but i keep getting signs that i am. I've been confused for so long now and i keep praying to god just give me a sign if i am pregnant. And hes giving me what i think have been definate signs that i am.

Can someone help me or tell me what you think i feel crazy!

Other notes:
*no period since november 7th

Hi,
I'm glad you wrote back, let's see how we can help!

Let's focus on the facts, first, then talk about the other emotional aspects of this.
1. Your LMP (last menstrual period) was November 7th
2. Today is January 19th, giving you 73 days since your LMP
3. Normal length of cycle is between 21-35 days

Possible reasons for abnormal cycle length; loss of menstruation:
1. Pregnancy
2. Dramatic weight loss/gain
3. Underlying medical condition
4. Excess stress
5. Recent illness
6. New medication
7. Other "unknown" factors

Your doctor will likely take more notice of your missed periods once you have missed three periods in-a-row (105 days since LMP), as this is a medical condition called amenorrhea. (click on orange hyperlink to learn more)

Your doctor will likely perform another blood test, to check for pregnancy among other things. An ultrasound may be performed, and this would absolutely prove/disprove any possible current, viable pregnancy.

Other facts to focus on, regarding your symptoms: You are experiencing a feeling of a ball rolling around in your stomach, on the left side; similar to bubbles or fluttering.

Fetal movement is typically felt by the mother between weeks 16-22 weeks, with the average for first-time moms being around 20 weeks.

If your LMP was November 7th, you would be at about 10.5 weeks...too early to feel significant fetal movements. Please know, however, that some women are able to feel slight fetal movement earlier than 16 weeks, but this is the exception not the rule. What is more likely being felt is anxiety, stress or GI symptoms (gas "bubbles"). How does this make you feel to read this information? I in no way want to doubt your symptoms or cause more anxiety, and am primarily providing information based on the most likely scenario.

Regarding the emotional aspects of what you are going through:
You are not crazy! :-) Just very excited, wanting something and are interpreting any/every symptom as a pregnancy symptom. That is very common, and is difficult NOT to do, as there are so many websites devoted to "early pregnancy signs" (as well as the overly dramatic "I didn't know I was pregnant" TV shows). These sites and shows are doing well, because they are playing into women's worst fears, anxieties, hopes and dreams. Women want a baby, want to feel pregnant...if they are not pregnant, then they second-guess that a test was wrong, a doctor's diagnosis was wrong, or there is a baby hiding somewhere where a test did not find it.

This does not mean you are "crazy", but you may want to choose carefully what websites you visit, as there is a "condition" that is common and medical students experience it: whatever disease/condition they are studying, they start physically feeling the symptoms of the disease. It is human nature, and completely normal response. If you continue reading possible pregnancy symptoms, you too, will start physically feeling symptoms, wondering if you are pregnant even though all the tests say you are not at this time.

Please know there are always exceptions to the rule, and you know your body better than anyone else. It is a struggle to be able to listen carefully to your body's physical, emotional, mental and spiritual "signals" vs. what your deepest wishes, dreams and desires are. Please trust your gut, seek a second opinion if you need to, but just know yourself and give yourself permission to say, "I may be wanting a baby so badly that I am interpreting my physical symptoms as a pregnancy, although it has been confirmed that I do not have a current viable pregnancy. It is OK to feel this way, and I will not call myself "crazy" or put myself down, but I will continue listening to my body, asking important health questions, seeking medical attention for absence of a period, with the outcome being unknown at the moment."

Does this help at all? I was in your shoes, too, wanting/wondering if any possible strange sensation in my abdomen was a pregnancy sign. You've had a rougher time, with some tests being positive; others being negative. You can focus on the facts right now, that you have not had a period for over 70 days, call your doctor and ask when you should be seen for amenorrhea. You can seek a second opinion.

In the meantime, it may be a good idea to have protected sex, so that you can have your medical condition resolved first, so that you will know what your baseline menstrual period is (it may be irregular for a time).

Please keep us updated, and let us know your thoughts.

I had thought abt miscarriage, but i have had no bleeding at all. I thought i was having cramps for a while but they would come and go and they were very mild.

i told myself that if i dont get a period by the 15 im going to retest with a clear blue digital test.

Thanks so much, i am trying to stay as calm as i can, im just anxious to have a baby and i feel like God is playing games with my head. But i know what i say and it was definately a positive test.

I'll Keep you posted

Thanks again
