Q:

Odd period?

I have recently had my tonsils out. During recovery I forgot to take my birth control a couple of times but doubled up when I realized that. I had had a period before surgery that was mostly normal. It was regular the first day and a half, filling a pad and then light or spotty on and off for two days. I chalked it up to being due to my pill at the time as it lightens my periods (I have really heavy periods). This last period, after surgery, was regular flow the first day - bright red with a couple small clots, but not really filling a pad at all and I had some pretty good cramps - it got lighter after a few hours and had progressively come to a stop at only three days. Laying on my stomach I noticed feels like pressure (like I'm bloated or constipated). I plan on taking a test to make to see if I'm pregnant. I do wonder though - if it is negative - why my period would be weird. It has been hot and I had recently just got back to work after being gone from surgery, could stress be a factor?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community.

You have recently had surgery. You missed active doses of birth control but did make up for it.

Give your body a chance to heal. I would not over think any of this. However, if you are still concerned, please speak with your gynecologist.

Regards,
Maryann
