I'm thinking of going on Ortho Tricyclen lo but before I do I have a concern, I'm a figure competior and I've heard that taking birth contorl pills can cause you to lose
lean muscle mass or keep you from gaining lean muscle mass. Since Ortho Tricylen lo is a low dose of hormones would I still be effected? or should I change to different pill or just find a different alternative.

I actually read some articles saying that the hormones in the pill decreases your DHEA which is a steriod hormone and when this happens you become catabolic meaning you lose lean muscle mass.

Hi,
I have not read any clinical studies or medical information regarding hormonal contraception (such as birth control pills) causing a loss of lean muscle mass, or prevention of gaining lean muscle mass.
Some women may experience slight weight gain as a side effect when using hormonal contraception, but you can prevent this with your current physical activity.
All combination pills include the same hormones, and have the same side effects. You can talk with your doctor about your concerns, too!
