Over dosage of Postinor 2

I took both pills in one dosage, is this dangerous or less effective? Also, what are the usual side effects after taking the pills and how soon after? I took the pills about a 17 days ago and now I'm spotting ( not heavy but blood is present). Could this be a side effect?

Hello Anonymous,

I do not think you are in any danger. Postinor contains levonorgestrel. If taken before ovulation, it prevents your ovary from releasing an egg. If taken after ovulation, it interferes with fertilization.

Your body may need to adjust to the extra dose of hormone. That is why I suggested to speak with a gynecologist.

Hello Anonymous,

Did you take Postinor2 after you had unprotected sex five days ago?
If taken within 24 hours following unprotected sex, Postinor 2 is 95% effective in reducing the risk of pregnancy.

One side effect of Postinor 2 is changes in the menstrual cycle. It can cause your period to start earlier or begin later than normal. If you do not get your period within three weeks of taking Postinor 2, test for pregnancy.

Thank you. You are very helpful. God bless you. I hop I am not pregnant. I took the Postinor 2 twelve hours after intercourse. But if I fall in the 5% mark of getting pregnant, How soon can I know . Can a GNC determine if I am (pregnant) and if I am; are there any thing i can use to stop it?

Hello Anonymous,

If you do not get your period within three weeks of taking Postinor 2, test for pregnancy. You can take a home pregnancy test. But, if you schedule an appointment with your gynecologist, a blood hCG or pregnancy test can be ordered. A blood test is more accurate than a urine test. A blood test can detect hCG levels as early as 11 days following conception. hCG is a hormone that is produced only during pregnancy.

There is nothing you can do to "stop" a pregnancy. Your gynecologist can discuss options to terminate a pregnancy if that is what you choose to do.

Hello Anonymous,

There was no need to take Postinor 2 because you were having your period. There was no chance that you could have conceived or gotten pregnant at this time.

Postinor 2 contains levonorgestrel, which is the synthetic hormone found in many birth control pills. But, the dosage is much higher. By taking Postinor 2 during your period, you have upset your normal hormonal balance.

Your next menstrual cycle may be irregular with your period starting earlier or later. You should consult your gynecologist.
