Q:

Overheat causing headaches

Within 10-15 minutes of doing any type of activity that requires "energy", i end up sweating profusely and overheat. If I don't stop and cool off, i will get headaches that will lead to migraines if i don't catch it in time. During warm days, just being in temperatures more than 70 degrees cause me to sweat and get headaches. Due to this, I am forced to stay in indoors with the a/c (huge electric bills) and can not even go to a bbq! Does anyone know of this type of problem?

Note: I drink lots of water, i am not over-weight and I've had this issue since I was a child. It has gotten worse over the years.

Hi everyone, I have the same thing, including the chills. Everyone is talking about not being dehydrated bc they drink a lot of water. Water has NEVER worked to hydrate me. There was a time I was drinking so much I ended up in the ER for low electrolytes. The only thing that really hydrates is 16oz of juiced celery or the same amt if cucumber juice, which actually works slightly better for me. Sometimes I'm bad enough that I have to double up to 32ozs. If hydration is your problem this will work. Also salt is NOT my friend. While it bloats me up it pulls the water from my organs and makes me even more thirsty. Good luck, hope this helps.

I have suffered from heat induced headaches and migraines since as early as 5 years old (37 now). here is what I have learned. Having an enlarge optical nerve can exacerbate this so check with an optometrist. They are called ocular migraines.

Tips for preventing them
1. Swim for excercise, it helps regulate your tempeture. It's the only excercise I can do without paying the price.
2. If you have to be in the heat wear one of the headband type ice packs.

3. Try your hardest not to let your head go below your heart. This really helps

If unfortunately you do get a headache/migraine immediately do these five things.

1. Put an ice pack on your head
2. Take Excedrin tension headache it's actually better than Excedrin Migraine
3. Take three hits of oxygen, the kind you can get at a sports authority or on Amazon no prescription needed
4. Drink as much water as you can down 33 oz at least
5. If you can, lay down and close your eyes for at least 20 minutes or nap

Good luck!

I am so glad that I found all of this information, I have struggled with headaches and migraines since I was a child. I suffer from the over heating causing headaches and migraines, I can't even stay in a hot bath for over 5 minutes before my head starts pounding. I have the lower blood pressure, doctors constantly ask if my blood pressure runs low. It's hard for nurses to find my veins to take blood or start iv's. I'm very glad to know I'm not the only one who suffers from these symptoms and now I have a better idea of what to bring up to my neurologist.

My heat related headache is slightly different from the ones everyone is describing and it is interesting reading this post because no one seems to understand these headaches and it feels as if I have one off unique condition, which is very frustrating and no doctor can help. My headache seems to be caused by overheating too, but the most common trigger is sleeping too warm. I usually sleep with a light sheet and only shorts because any kind of blanket, unless it's really cold, seems to have me waking up with a headache that usually lasts all day. I also get the headache from being in any way too hot, but am more susceptible in the mornings soon after waking. For example if I have just a slight headache, or even no headache, from the night before even wearing shoes and long pants in any sort of mild, 70 degree or so temperature, causes me to be unable to regulate my temperature and a migraine develops every time. The cause and pattern is very predictable.

ME TOO! I always called them heat headaches: hot day, hot room, exercise heat (and ironically I'm a group exercise instructor), and hot sleeping is a biggie for me!!
Everything everyone on here has nentioned I have experienced and at 50, I've had to figure it all out myself. No doctor has ever been able to truly help me; just wanna give drugs when I wanted answers to help me help myself and PREVENT the headaches.
You all ROCK!! I'm so excited that I'm not alone and that some of the same things I've figured out work for others too and can prevent the headaches... although yes, there are times, like today, that I get caught off guard, which is why I ended up here. God Bless You All!!

At last I am not alone! I tried to figure out for literally years why I was waking up every morning, or in the middle of the night, with a headache. I FINALLY figured out that the trigger was that I was sleeping too warm. Light sheet and very light nightwear, cool temps in the bedroom and I am typically just fine.

I'm a 56 year old male and i also get severe headaches when i exert myself when the temp is up but i don't seem to sweat much
. It's as if my body's thermostat is not working and it seems to be getting worse as i get older.I found an interesting fact about my grandfather, when he applied to join the army during the 1st world war his medical records stated that he could only operate in a temperate climate but gave no reason.
