i am doing school work, bcuzi am homeschooled but that is only four hours at the most. and since my bf is homeschooled as well he has been bringing movies and magazines. but no one can stay forever so sometimes im all alone and then it just is scary, tho i told my doc and she has been trying to come by more to talk to me

gosh what i wouldnt give for a milkshake, but my doc says i can only eat things that are ok-ed on this list she gave me, and its bland bland bland. lol

but u know what has really began to help me?
knitting, my mom brought it for me this morning its fun and it keeps me calmer which was good bcuz my bf could not come today and my parents had to get back to work so they came at 9 and left at 10.

Billiegirl,

Please tell the doctors that you are having anxiety issues, and that you are having trouble staying calm. Use those words. They may be able to give you some medicine that will help you not feel that way. It is pretty common to be anxious when you're in the hospital, and a few days of anti-anxiety medication may help you. (It shouldn't make you sleepier; it should just make you feel more like you're on firm ground and that things aren't as scary.)

Will you do that? You've been doing awesome throughout this whole thing, but it's been a lot of days now and you're still not feeling great, and it's not surprising that you're feeling anxiouis.

In the meantime, you have to distract yourself. Do you have magazines there? Ask your mom or boyfriend to go to the store and buy EVERY magazine that you like. Even if that means they bring you 15 magazines, LOL!

Do you have homework to do? Is there anyone taking notes for you in classes or bringing you your homework assignments? Are you worried about getting behind in school?

Ask your nurses if you can walk a little more often. While it's uncomfortable, it does help you get better and it will tire you out a bit, which will help you rest.

Is your boyfriend still bringing you movies? Do you have a television in the room that will allow you to order movies?

Is there anyone out in the world who might appreciate a letter from you? An actual letter, that you write and put in an envelope and send with an actual stamp? An aunt, a grandparent, a faraway friend? That might be fun (and you might get one back!)

How's the food? Are you able to eat much? Are you on a restricted diet, or would it be OK if your mom or dad brought in a milkshake?

Try to just focus on getting better, Billiegirl. That's your job right now. I know it's boring to be in the hospital and stressful as well, but you're doing a great job. Keep up with your pain medicine and ask the doctors about the anxiety. And keep coming here -- you know we're here for you, too. Even over the weekend.

Billiegirl,

Congrats on getting to the end of the hall! Yes, they always make you walk a little bit before you feel like it, but it helps you get to feeling better. That "drippy thing on wheels" (LOL!) is your IV stand. IV means intravenous.

Are your parents spending good amounts of time with you there? Do you feel like you all are talking more than you did before this happened?

When are they talking about releasing you, Billiegirl?

gosh they just made me get up and walk, that was an interesting experience. i couldnt walk by myself so my bf helped me, and i felt really weak, i did not even know how weak i was lol i only got to the end of the hall, and i had to have one of those drippy things on wheels (yes in fact, i did forget the name)
even tho i did not go far my doc said it was far enough for today cuz i think my bf was going to have a coronary watching me walk, he thought something bad was going to happen lol

todays better, the pain and nausea are less cuz of all the meds im taking (which is a little scary being that drugged)
and the thing about my parents i think it was a little bit of a wake up call, they were busy but i also do not exactly stand up for myself.
but now they have like 3 cases that they r not doing cuz they dont want to leave the hospital. which is another bright side, im getting their full attention.

(and it is great to have a bf who likes audrey hepurn movies, but you want to know somethin funny? HE got ME into them lol)

Billiegirl,

I'm just now catching up with you from over the weekend. I am so, so, so glad that you wrote to us in the first place, and that your boyfriend insisted you go to the hospital to get this checked out. (And besides that, to have a boyfriend likes Audrey Hepburn movies is a wonderful thing!)

It is frightening to know how sick you were when you went to the hospital, isn't it? I know it was so scary -- you had never even had a pelvic exam -- but it sounds like everything went well and that you'll be fine when you get over your infection and the soreness from the surgery. A week in the hospital is a pretty long time!

Glad your parents and boyfriend are there. And while as lawyers your parents ARE extremely busy, perhaps this will be a bit of a wakeup call to them as well -- you had told them (or one of them?) that you were having this bleeding and pain, right? And they didn't insist that you go to the doctor right then. Or are you a person who has some trouble standing up for herself? Please learn from this to trust your gut instinct -- you knew there was something wrong, even though it was scary to deal with it.

And memorize the feeling you have with the doctor who doesn't treat you like a child. Throughout your life, when you need doctors for different things, you want doctors who look you in the eye, talk with you like your feelings matter, give you all the information you need and want, and make decisions with you about what is best for your body. It doesn't matter if it's a gynecologist or an allergy doctor or anything in between, you want a doctor who talks TO you instead of AT you, and one who shares information and is open to all your questions without being impatient.

What's happening with you today? Is your pain any better? How about the nausea?
