Period and Pregnancy Question

I last got my period June 21 and it ended June 25. In July, I was waiting for my period expecting it to come around the same time, but that did not happen. Today is August 8, and I still have not gotten my period. Prior to June, I was on birth control pills and have stopped taking them since May. I have heard that it takes a while for you to get into a normal cycle every month.

Me and my husband did have intercourse a few times (unprotected), we are not trying to get pregnant. But, could there be a chance still that I am pregnant thats why I am not getting my period? My husband thinks I should take the test right away, but am thinking to hold off for a bit just not sure how long.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

So today is day 22 for me and I am still bleeding. Yesterday there was more bleeding than all the other days and 1-2 blood clots that were not overly big or anything. Last week I went to the doctor because I am getting concerned now since it is going on for so long. I have an ultrasound appt next week and I requested by doctor to try and get me in earlier but she told me because I am not bleeding a lot and I am not in any pain I should just wait until next week since it is not far away. I also switched gyno’s because I found another one that is better but it’s still in the same office. And I won’t get results from my ultrasound until 2-3 weeks later since that is when my appointment with the gyno is.

I know I am not bleeding heavily and I do not have to change as often. In June 2010 I had the same problem continuous bleeding and I had to change a lot more often and I had clots as well. But I had no cramps. This time it’s the same thing just not heavy bleeding or any blood clots like last time. And I am again having no cramps at all.

I don’t know if I should be just sitting and waiting around until next Monday for my ultrasound. I know it’s not that far away, but it’s beginning to really worry me that I am going on for this long. I have two cysts in my ovaries and that is why I have an ultrasound appointment. When it was first detected they told me we are going to monitor it every 6 months and so my last appointment for an ultrasound was March I believe and so now this is the next one.

I’m just not sure what to do. I am worried and depressed because this is going on for long again and I can’t even do anything.

Hi,
Provera is used to treat abnormal menstruation (periods) or irregular vaginal bleeding. It is also used to bring on a normal menstrual cycle in women who menstruated normally in the past but have not menstruated for at least 6 months and who are not pregnant or undergoing menopause (change of life). Provera is also used to prevent overgrowth of the lining of the uterus (womb) and may decrease the risk of cancer of the uterus in patients who are taking estrogen. It is in a class of medications called progestins. It works by stopping the growth of the lining of the uterus and by causing the uterus to produce certain hormones.

Ok so over the weekend, it was extremely light and I thought ok it looks like it is going away. However, today morning when I cleaned myself there was a little more blood and darker then the weekend. Meaning, it was so light you could hardly see it. I have not gone to the doctor yet.

But what I wanted to ask was about Provera. I remember the doctor mentioning it to me when I went to see her the day before I got my period. But I wanted to know what it's taken for? Is it taken to stop my period because it is long? Or do you take it and then you get a normal period? How many days is this pill?

I was actually trying to get into to see a gyno, but they won't let me see him since I switched gyno's and my first appointment is in November becuase I have an ultrasound appt to see how things are going with the two cysts that I have now. They are monitoring it to make sure all is good.

But anyway, if it does not stop within a few days, I may just go to my family doctor.

Thanks for everything! I will keep you posted.

So the latest update is that I still have my period. I am having brown discharge and sometimes very light blood. Today is Day 10 and right now the time here where I live is 8:30am and as of right now there is a little bit of brown discharge. Not sure if this will extend past 10 days, but I can say that since I got it last Tuesday, I have not had any sort of cramps or anything.

Any other suggestions on what I could do?

Yea, I figured the brown discharge doesn't happen until the last few days. But I had the brown discharge the first few days with a little bit of blood in between. And I don't have a heavy flow at all. It is light and I am not getting cramps either. So, eventually it should go away???

I was going to go see the doctor, but thought I would wait another few days and see what happens.

So the latest update is that I got my period like I said last Tuesday. And today is day 8 and now I am still going. My period has been off and on, meaning sometimes there is brown stuff and sometimes blood. Is it normal for it to be like this off and on? And is it normal for it to be lasting longer days than usual because I skipped two months?

Hi Susan,

Thanks for replying. Yes, my plan is to wait and see if it does materiallize and I get back on track. Atleast if this month lasts the normal days it should, I would be glad.

So the latest update from last time I posted is that I don’t have an infection in my bladder which is great news. Today when I went to use the washroom, I think there was some blood on my underwear and when I cleaned myself it showed light blood. But I am not 100% sure yet if this is my period after 2 and a half months. I guess the most I can do is wait and see if it is, right?!!? Any suggestions?

Hi guys,

So the results came in the same day I went for them but didn't go until yesterday after work for the results. I am not pregnant, so that rules that out. I was on the pill since Sept 2010 and stopped May 2011, and she told me that it could take upto 6 months for me to get back into a regular cycle. And from the research I have done myself, I have read the same thing. Maybe I was just coming down with a flu or something. As for the bladder infection, I don't have those results yet, but it was just to be sure I do or do not have an infection the tests were sent out.

So that is what happened. It seems like many symptoms are similar to pregnancy symptoms, which is annoying!

Thanks for everything guys! I really appreciate the feedback and advice.
