Period and Pregnancy Question

I last got my period June 21 and it ended June 25. In July, I was waiting for my period expecting it to come around the same time, but that did not happen. Today is August 8, and I still have not gotten my period. Prior to June, I was on birth control pills and have stopped taking them since May. I have heard that it takes a while for you to get into a normal cycle every month.

Me and my husband did have intercourse a few times (unprotected), we are not trying to get pregnant. But, could there be a chance still that I am pregnant thats why I am not getting my period? My husband thinks I should take the test right away, but am thinking to hold off for a bit just not sure how long.

Any suggestions on what I can do?

Hi Pastnai!

you really did well to consult the doctors immediately! as far as your question goes, we can all just guess the results of your test. i know very well how it feels to wait for those, how impatient you get and how long is the night before you end up holding an envelope with the answer in it.

Whatever happens, i wish you all the luck in the world.. and please keep us posted when u find out what's up!

Hi,
So the past two days I was at home, not feeling well. I was having headaches and my body ached. Yesterday I went to the doctor and explained what was going on from missing my period last month to taking a preg test last week etc. She did a test as well and it came out negative, but found a small infection that could possibly in my bladder. She has sent that out to find out if I really do have one.

Next, she also told me to get some blood work done to check if I am pregnant or not. I am expected to get results tomorrow.

What do you all think?

Hi Pasntai,
I agree with Mena. From my own experience, I stopped taking my birth control pills on January 1 and conceived by second child the following month. I suggest that you make an appointment with your gynecologist for a blood pregnancy test, which is much more accurate. Your doctor may do an ultrasound to determine if you are pregnant. That will be a definitive way to know if you are or are not pregnant.
Please keep us posted:)

So, I did the pregnancy test this morning and it was negative. Could it just be possible that my body is still taking a while to get on a normal cycle? Or, would it better recommended to go to the doctor and just make sure i am not pregnant?

Any other suggestions???

Hi Mena and Maryann,

Thanks for your help!!! I just wanted a few opinions before making the decision....

Hey Pasntai,

it's a bit of a false myth that it takes some months to become fertile after stopping taking the pill.. so if you had unprotected sex you might as well be pregnant.. and by now most of the HPT would show it if you are... so i'd listen to your husbands advice and do one. It may be that your period is a bit deregulated because you're not on birth control anymore, but you also may be that you're pregnant - if you are, the HPT should show it by now so whatever the outcome at least you'll know!

wish you all the best,

Mena

Hi Pasntia,
Unprotected sex, especially during the time of ovulation, often referred to as a woman's most fertile time, leads to pregnancy. Now would be a good time to take a home pregnancy test. Read and follow the directions carefully to get the most accurate results.
