Hey, I had my period start about 2 days early, then about 12 hours into I was changing my pad again then I seen this weird stringy thing came out that look like skin tissue or something?

Here's a picture (it looks gross, warning)

I'm not sure what it is to be honest, it made me shocked, especially because I had a normal period last month and am not pregnant (pretty sure I'm not) - I'm bleeding normally now

thanks for any help/advice on what it could be x

Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

A woman's menstrual cycle sheds the lining of her uterus to prepare for pregnancy.  I wasn't able to view the picture, (but to be honest - I'm kinda chicken and screamish about that kind of stuff).  But even without seeing the picture, it sounds like uterine tissue/ membrane.

Are you taking hormonal contraception/birth control? The increased amount of hormones definitely affect how much our uterus sheds.

Is this the first time it has happened? If this is not the first time this has happened, as a precautionary measure, make and appointment to see your doctor.   It could be a sign of potentially other things going on and it's better to get checked out sooner rather than later.

I hope this helps.

Be well,

~Gillette
