Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Let's see if we can sort this out and help you understand why your period is late by 10 days.

An emergency contraceptive pill prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation.

You started your period on December 15. You had unprotected intercourse on December 18.
Were you still having your period then? Taking pill was unnecessary because there was no risk for becoming pregnant- ovulation happened and you were having your period.

The bleeding on December 25 was not a period but breakthrough bleeding (bleeding in between periods).

Anonymous, some women have changes in their menstrual cycles as a side effect of the pill. The next period could start earlier or later than expected. But, usually not by more than five days.

My concern is a hormonal imbalance caused by the pill. I suggest you schedule an appointment with your gynecologist or primary care physician, who can order blood tests and give you an answer.

Regards,
Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

Before calling your doctor, which I think you need to do, take a home pregnancy test correctly.

Purchase a name brand product. Check the expiration date.
Test in the morning. Use the first urine of the day which is concentrated and gives the most accurate result.

That is the only sure way to know if your period is late because of pregnancy. It is unfair for me to guess.

Regards,
Maryann
