Anyone been fine without doing surgery for prolapse? After assuming I had hemorrhoids, (although I do), I am in the process of being diagnosed with cystocele and rectocele issues. I'm completely miserable. I want surgery NOW but a pessary is being recommended. I'm about to lose insurance so I wish I could get surgery over with now....also moving across the country to be with my fiance in two weeks. Devastated!

Thanks, Pat! Well...was fitted for the pessary today and it seems "ok" so far. I'm not having any relief for the rectal pressure. Additionally, I had a transvaginal ultrasound this morning. My gyno told me there was fluid found in my uterus. She didn't seem at all concerned about it and went on with the pessary fitting. I was so overwhelmed by all the pessaryness that I "forgot" to ask a bit more about that fluid! Of course I am now worried about what that fluid means (there are some scary things associated with that), and I'm wondering if THAT is the cause of this pressure, especially without the pessary helping the backside pressure. The good news is, I'll still use the pessary for a while and see if it helps things...but I have no idea WHY my doctor wouldn't want to schedule me for some sort of biopsy or further investigation of this fluid. Anyway...thanks for listening! I have emailed my dr. and asked her if we can rule bad things out or if we need to figure out what is causing the fluid.

What are your concerns that led to asking about having surgery vs a pessary? There are certainly plenty of women in the EmpowHER community who will have opinions on this. I hope you hear from them and have as much information as you need to make your decision.

Thank you, Pat! I'm being fitted for a pessary tomorrow. I feel so "not me" with this bulge feeling, bowel problems, etc. I have been put through two colonoscopies, tons of rectal examinations, and still a defecography. My gut said "hernia or prolapse" but the GI docs kept saying colitis (wasn't), internal hems (wasn't), etc. My gyno last week identified the cystocele and rectocele. She is the one fitting me tomorrow. I am under extreme pressure because I will lose my health insurance in 3 weeks when I move to Florida...I have already quit my job and am just "hanging around" trying to get answers. I'm just hoping the pessary will get me by until I have health insurance again in Florida. I am of the mindset that there is a problem and I want it fixed! I'm a big exerciser, walking, running, weights, and this has made me feel so unlike myself. I feel gross. I'm also supposed to start nursing school next year. At 41, I am starting over after divorce and losing everything. This is my NEW SHOT with someone I have known my entire life...and now my insides are falling out. I just want to know I can find relief and move and survive another six months or year before I have the safety net of insurance again. I have had three BIG BOY BABIES all older now...I have been a barista, legal assistant, accounting administrator...very active....just want to be normal again.

Hi Anon - Wow!! You do have a lot going on. The good news is that your lifestyle - the exercise, walking, running, weights, etc. that have been part of your life will help you in getting through this situation and getting back to your active lifestyle again. And nursing school? Bravo! We need more nurses and you seem like someone who will be a great one. Yes, you CAN do this, one day this will just be a big bump in the road that slowed you down for a while, but didn't stop you. Take good care, Pat
