Plan B - Can I take the Next Active Pill on Sunday After my Period Starts?

Hi, I have used Ortho tri lo for a year now and started using Metronidazole for 7 days for bacteria vaginosis while I was on my inactive pills. My partner's condom broke and I got worried and took Plan B. My question is can I take the next active pill on Sunday after my period starts? Am I still fully protected since I have taken the pill over a year now? Does this type of antibiotics increase your chance of getting pregnant? Thank you so much.

What an unfortunate sequence of events! Okay, I looked up contraindications for metronidazole, and it says nothing about birth control. Since it is not a typical antibiotic from the same family as the penicillins, it acts differently and according to the information I do not think it will interact with the pill. http://www.medicinenet.com/metronidazole/page2.htm

I went to the Plan B website and it states in the FAQ that you should not deviate from your normal schedule taking birth control. http://www.planbonestep.com/plan-b-faq.aspx#13

As for protection, with using the Plan B I would imagine you are protected, but of course I can't guarantee that. But it seems you followed the "better safe than sorry" type of behavior so I would guess you would be protected. I would like to say that when you have specific medication questions like these, it is always better to call your pharmacist, who likely has a doctorate degree in medications. That is your specialist and your best friend when you have medication issues.
