Is Plan B as effective for overweight women?

I have seen conflicting websites on the effectiveness of Plan B. That the pill will not work at all if a woman has a BMI over 25. It this true? What can women with a higher BMI do or take to prevent pregnancy?

Hi AnnaS198!

Thank you for your post!

Emergency contraceptives are up to 95% effective for women under 176 pounds (it is less effective for women over 165 pounds and ineffective for women over 176 pounds) .

EC should only be used in a real emergency, it is not to be used as a method of birth control.

There are many birth control options including condoms, the birth control pill, patches, injections, an IUD and more. You can take a look here for more details: http://www.empowher.com/birth-control/content/choosing-right-birth-control-you
