Hi, I'm Danielle. I had unprotcted sex a day before my period due date, the next day i experienced what I thought could have been my period but I am unsure. My periods are usually very heavy and painful for the first day and then the pain dies down but is still quite heavy. This time it was very light and appeared a brownish colour at times. I am unsure when I should/can take a pregnancy test

Guide

Hi Danielle,

Thank you for choosing EmpowHER and sharing your question about when to take a pregnancy test.

A pregnancy test can be taken 10-14 days after unprotected sex and when taken correctly, will certainly be accurate by the time your next period is due.

If you are really worried, you can call your doctor for further instructions. He or she may want to give you a physical examination or a pregnancy test at the office.

I hope this information helps you and you get answers as soon as possible.

Best,
Kristin
