I don't have a regular period. There's something wrong hormonally so they just don't happen. Last night I had unprotected sex and just saw that now I'm bleeding. It's been 9 months since my last period. Does me starting now say anything about the chance of being pregnant? Please help.

Guide

Hello, and thank you for sharing your question with the community.  I understand how strange this must be for you.  I'd love you give you some helpful information.

For women who have irregular periods, it sometimes occurs that she can ovulate during a period but this is very unlikely and rarely happens.  Because the sperm can live in the body for 3-5 days, pregnancy can sometimes occur if you have sex during your period.  But since it seems like your period started after having intercourse, it is actually a good sign that you are not pregnant.  If you want to be completely sure however, taking a pregnancy test is always a quick and easy way to find out.

I hope this has been helpful.  Let us know if you have any more questions.
