Pregnant, fibroid or ovarian cyst????

843girl - Thanks for sharing the results of your exam. Most ovarian cysts are benign, meaning they are not cancerous. Birth control pills do not decrease the size of current cysts and that does not seem to be an option for you. Surgical removal is typically recommended for the following:
* Complex ovarian cysts that don't go away
* Cysts that are causing symptoms and do not go away
* Simple ovarian cysts that are larger than 5 - 10 centimeters

Have you asked your doctor if surgery is your only option or just the first option he or she suggests? If you have any qualms about having the surgery and want to know if other options are available to you then you should discuss this with your doctor who is the only person will full access to your medical history and medical reports. Ok, so i have my results from the ultrasound.....and sure enough i have an ovarian cyst almost the size of my ovary. The first suggestion from the doctor is laparoscopy surgery (such a scarey thought). He stated that the surgery will be a minor outpatient surgery just to drain the cyst. Is there any other way to get rid of the cyst without having to go through surgery??? Can birthcontrol get rid of the cyst over time???? or is it too big???? I really don't want surgery but I want to do what ever i need to get rid of this cyst.

i went to the doctor and was given progesterone to induce my cycle. I have begun spotting since i started taking the medication. I am scheduled for an ultrasound. When an ultrasound is done will it show any ovarian cyst or fibroids (if there are any)???? I have researched fibroids/cyst and a lot of info states the cycle will be heavy and long...but i haven't had one. If i am spotting then it must be a fibroid...right????? I am thinking the negative results of the HPTs are actually negative...but I don't want to be on that show "i didn't know I was pregnant". I hope the ultrasound will rule out any possibility of pregnancy. Thanks

The home pregnancy test (if taken after you missed your period and ideally a week after missing) is usually up to 99% accurate, so I think you can rule that out. If you're still concerned you could be pregnant, you can request a blood test from your doctor to confirm your hormone levels, it's called a Quantitative hCG Beta blood test.
Fibroid or Ovarian Cyst: doctors often treat with what's called "watchful waiting." Make sure to ask your doctor's office how long you should wait before making an appointment. And make sure that if you experience excessive pain or discomfort, to seek urgent medical attention. Here is more information about both:
