Hi Anon

Thanks for your post!

These vitamins may or may not help you to actually get pregnant, rather they will help you to maintain a healthy pregnancy once you are pregnant.

Prenatal vitamins typically contain more folic acid and iron than do standard adult multivitamins.

Folic acid helps prevent neural tube defects. These defects are serious abnormalities of the brain and spinal cord.

Iron supports the baby's growth and development. Iron also helps prevent anemia, a condition in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells.

Calcium and vitamin D are important as well, especially during the third trimester, when your baby's bones are rapidly growing and strengthening.

Not all prenatal vitamins include omega-3 fatty acids, which might help promote a baby's brain development. If you don't eat fish or other foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, your health care provider might recommend omega-3 fatty acid supplements in addition to prenatal vitamins.

Prenatal vitamins are available over-the-counter in nearly any pharmacy. Your health care provider might recommend a specific brand of prenatal vitamins or leave the choice up to you. Look for a prenatal vitamin that contains folic acid, calcium and iron. It might be beneficial to look for a prenatal vitamin that contains vitamin D, vitamin C, vitamin A, vitamin E, zinc and copper.

Most brands are fine - it depends on where you live. Ask your pharmacist which ones he/she recommends and make sure they contain the vitamins and minerals and other supplements you're looking for.

A healthy diet is important when trying for pregnancy - we have a great article about this topic that you can read here: http://www.empowher.com/infertility-fertility/content/10-foods-improve-your-chances-getting-pregnant

Good luck!
