Pressure/Pain

I’m 28 years old and at least once a month I have pressure in the lower part of my stomach (I guess the pelvic area) that lasts anywhere from 2-5 days, and it’s very uncomfortable. A lot of the time, in addition to the pressure I have deep pain on either my left or right side…but never both sides at the same time. Is this normal? What could be the cause?
Other than daily multivitamins I’m not taking any type of medications…

Anon, As Cary said, you need to discuss this with your gynecologist or your primary care provider to determine the cause of your pain and to get appropriate treatment. While this may be tied to your cycle, it's not normal, and definitely needs to be checked. Please let us know what you learn from your doctor, and we hope you find the answers and relief that you need.

Hello Anonymous

Have you noticed when this happens during your menstrual cycle? It almost sounds like you are having discomfort with ovulation. Have you discussed this with your gynecologist?

Some women do have pain or discomfort with ovulation. But there are other things that could be going on, and when you have chronic pain it is important to see a health care provider to determine the cause and rule out any problems.

If you have further questions, please let us know. Thank you for writing.
