How long can I expect it to take before the emotional toll from a stroke will be reduced to a
minimum? I'm having a very difficult time with the effects of my 'brain rearrangement', and
I, along with all my friends wonder when will I be back to my old, normal, calm, peaceful self??

Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

It is common after a stroke for you to experience emotional and behavior changes. How long ago was it that you suffered your major stroke? What type of stroke rehabilitation are you participating in?  Perhap you should talk with your doctor about getting more support in the cognitive and emotional areas.

You classified your stroke as major and with that said, I would say to give it time.  Have patience with yourself (your brain), it's just gone thru major trauma.  Instead of focusing on getting back to your old normal, I would be more gentle and patience and work on simply thriving and improving day by day, week by week, month by month.

With regards to getting back to your calm, peaceful self, have you considered meditation?  Here is an article on the topic: Meditation Helps with Stroke Recovery

I hope this helps.

Be well,
