my granmother has had this condition for about 20 years and so little is known about this condition. I am treating her wounds on a regular basis and would like to hear from anyone who has this condition. i would like to know what is the best topical treatment to soothe these wounds. I know it cant be cured but I was hoping to hear from sufferers, a personal view on how to manage it. Does anyone know of a support group.

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your question and welcome to EmpowHer.Pyoderma gangrenosum is a painful skin disorder that causes open ulcers on the skin and can even attach to internal organs. Is the person being treated with steroids for the condition? Here is some additional information from the Mayo Clinic regarding this conditionhttp://www.mayoclinic.org/pyoderma-gangrenosum/treatment.html.
Now, this condition is usually secondary to a primary condition such as an auto-immune disorder and therefore would not necessarily be contagious to another person. Is there a specific concern? Perhaps sexual contact, etc?
Please keep us posted.
