Scared that I am pregnant

I have been trying to have sex with my boyfriend but we have never actually gone the whole way because it hurts a lot for me. He has stuck his penis inside me a few times but thats it. I dont think my hymen is broken yet because i feel a barrier there and I have not bled. We have used a condom every time we have tried.

Back in April, we were humping and rubbing without a condom (penis and vagina) the day after my period. However, both of us were worried so I decided to take Plan B. A week after (which is roughly 8 days after my last period) I had my period again.

Since then, we have attempted to have sex but have never been successful because it hurt too much. Like mentioned above, he has put his penis in my vagina using a condom but nothing us, and I have yet to bled and still feel a barrier like-thing in my vagina so I do not think my hymen is broken yet.

My period this month was supposed to come on May 3rd. It is now May 23rd and nothing has happened yet. I took a First Response pregnancy test about two weeks after my period was due and it was negative. I haven't really had any symptoms of pregnancy...only the occasional headache...once felt like puking in the morning...and my breasts feel sore once in a while but I also feel these symptoms when my period is approaching. Also, I have been stressed out due to exams at school and such. I am in my first year of university...18 years old.

I do not feel anything out of the ordinary...I feel quite normal. I do not know why my period is so late. Could it be due to Plan B? Since I got another period only a week after, could that have thrown it off? I used to be irregular but was starting to get more regular periods recently. Had I not gotten my period a week after the last one, then I would still be on schedule. Anyone have any idea? I am scared I am pregnant. I really hope I am not !

Any comments would be nice. Thanks again and sorry for the worry :(

Also, the Plan B was taken back in April after we had some contact of penis and vagina without a condom. It was after taking Plan B that we started using a condom and trying to have sex but only managed to go as far as putting his penis in my vagina.

Thanks again

Veryscared,

It is very, very common for Plan B to totally change your periods for the month or even two months after you take it. "Menstrual irregularities" are one of the main things it lists as a side effect. It's because Plan B works by using hormones, and those same hormones can screw up your regular menstrual cycle. Hang in there and try not to be so very stressed, because that can affect your cycle too.

Hi guys.
I just had my period recently. there was so much blood, even a blood clot...is that normal?

Can you define what "so much blood" is?

Woman's menstrual blood can be heavier or lighter from cycle-to-cycle, and this is normal. Some of the blood can even come out in a "lump", and this is tissue that is being eliminated. Also completely normal. (Your menstrual period is actually tissue and blood that makes up your thickened uterine lining).

Let me tell you what abnormal/excessive bleeding is:
- Bleeding heavily that you soak more than one pad/tampon per hour
- Bleeding more than 7 days

If either of these describe your experience of "so much blood", please call your doctor and let him/her know.

When he lost his erection, I think some of the precum from the condom got out onto the base of his penis/his testicles. Is this enough to make me pregnant? If anything, it would have made the most contact with the outer part of my vagina.

Its been 21 days and still nothing. Very scared :( But thanks for the reassurance. It has calmed me down a lot.

Hi,
I wish I could tell you that you are definitely not pregnant, but there is no way for any of us to know with 100% accuracy until your period starts! Your situation sounds like you have a very, very slim chance of pregnancy.

Please let us know when your period does begin, and try not to worry! You can take another test in a week, and honestly...trust in those results.

Take care!

Thanks Allison

One last question. When i had my "period" a week after taking Plan B...was it actually a period or just the bleeding caused in between periods by Plan B?

Thanks

Thanks for the quick reply

The few times we've tried to have sex, he has often gone "soft" inside me (lost his boner cause we had to go so slow) and I am afraid some of the semen came out of the condom. Like mentioned above he has never ejaculated inside me but i am afraid of the precum got out and made contact with the vagina.

How much longer will this go on? I am so stressed over it every day. I am so scared :(

If:
- your boyfriend DID ejaculate inside of you, lost his erection, did not hold the condom securely at the base of the penis and some ejaculatory fluid leaked out, there would be a chance of pregnancy.
- your boyfriend did NOT ejaculate inside of you, lost his erection, did not hold the condom securely...there would be no ejaculatory fluid to leak out. The pre-ejaculatory fluid ("pre-cum") that you are referring to are just a few drops that would be on the tip of his penis once he has an erection, and would not be enough to leak out. If there is enough fluid that it is leaking...this would be from an ejaculation.

It sounds like you took Plan B afterwards, plus you have a negative pregnancy test after you've missed your period. And, these are effective...you can trust the results. Periods can be late, or even missed completely, due to stress and other factors. There could be an underlying medical condition if your period does not begin within the next few months, and if you are having pain with intercourse that does not have to do with your hymen or lubrication.

What you can do: trust in your test results now, and wait a few weeks, assuming your period is late due to stress. If your period still does not start in the next few weeks, take another test (I assume it will be negative) and/or call your doctor to discuss your symptoms (lack of period for xx number of days, pain with intercourse).

Try not to worry, as you have done everything you can, and your situation does not sound high risk for a pregnancy.

It is most likely that you are NOT pregnant, as the home pregnancy tests are about 99% accurate at detecting any pregnancy hormones once you've missed a period (and, you took it two weeks after your missed period which is even better). Plus, it sounds like you have had protected sex every time with a condom (great!) without ejaculation, which would create very little (if any) chance for conception.

Are you able to see your hymen? Some women do not bleed if/when their hymen is "broken". If your boyfriend is able to insert his penis inside your vagina, then it sounds like your hymen is not preventing penetration. I am not sure what you mean by it feeling like there is something INSIDE your vagina? It could be your muscles are tense, and it would help if you used some lubrication (KY Jelly, Astroglide, etc). Is your boyfriend going really slowly, and are you feeling that you have enough natural lubrication?

We are happy to talk with you more about your painful intercourse, if you'd like. To answer your original question, however, it does not sound like you are pregnant, and there are many reasons for a late period including stress, recent illness, new medication, weight changes, etc. Plan B can cause your period to be late or early for a few cycles; it can cause breakthrough bleeding (bleeding in between periods).

Does this help?
