Selective Memory or am I Just Going Senile?

I've noticed that I remember past experiences - from my childhood, etc. - in vivid detail. I remember weird details too and weird things that happen. Not just because I was prompted by a photo but I recall it down to the smell of the paper and all. However, I just forget everything important in the present so easily. I forget notes, my phone, keys, bags. I'm so forgetful, but I remember all these memories in detail! What could be happening?

Hi igr,

Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. There is such thing as short term memory loss while you hold on to your old memories but lack the brain function to support new memories. Have you seen a doctor?
