Q:

Sex in between switching BC brands and Emergency Contreceptive. What should I do?

So my last active combination birth control pill was on Thursday 5/25/17, I am now on my placebo pills to allow my period this week. This was going to be my last pack of pills before switching to a different brand. But I had sex on 5/28/17 and he ejaculated near my area. In this case what should I do? Should I take and emergency contreceptive and begin the new brand of combination pills?

Guide

Hi, Anon.

Thank you for your post.

There is a 1% chance of getting pregnant on the pill with full intercourse so the risk is very small if you have taken your pills regularly (no overly late or missed pills). You said there was no ejaculation inside the vaginal canal. I would check with your doctor before taking any emergency contraception. Especially, as you are switching brands.
