I have been having shortness of breath for years. The older I get, the worse it gets. Going up a flight of stairs, carrying groceries, not to mention when I'm out. My blood sugar sometimes drop without notice. I had a pulmonary test done. They think it's adult asthma. I'm confused. While sitting down, if the air isn't on,, I feel short of breath, and the Albuterol doesn't help.

As your physician may have explained to you, asthma is a chronic lung disease that inflames and narrows the airways. Asthma causes recurring periods of wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing.
Adults tend to have lower lung capacity, which is the volume of air you are able to take in and forcibly exhale in one second. after middle age because of changes in muscles and stiffening of chest walls. This leads to adult onset asthma.
Though there is no cure for asthma, symptoms can be controlled with lifestyle changes, anti-inflammatory medications, such as inhaled steroids, and bronchodilators, which relax the muscle bands that tighten around the airways.
Albuterol is a bronchodilator. How long have you been using it? How often are you using it, every two hours? What is the dose you are using or how many puffs per dose?

Thank you so much. I feel like i have a low lung capacity and have been for years. I have interns, so they come and go without having enough time to cover evergthing. Ive always felt like i wasnt getting enough oxygen, and stated this to doctors.
Ventolin HFA, 90mg, Albuteral sulfate. Suppose to do 2puffs as often as needed during the day. But i dont feel any changes, sobi discontued using it. Last used it in March 2015, but have been on it for two years. Told by a nurse that there are other inhalors i can use, but the dr. wont listen to it because they are not sure if its adult ashma or my heart. Im so tired even when sitting down.
