Q:

Should I get a pregnancy test, and is it too late for Plan B?

My boyfriend and I had sex (protected-we useda condom) and I didn't use Plan B the next day. I'm not on birth control either. I am 4 days late on my period. I don't know if I should still get plan B (will it work if it's 2 weeks after, or will it start my period anyways?) and should I be worried about my late period? It's usually only 2-3 days late, and the weekend before my expected period I had severe cramping (worse that usual, but still a common symptom for me). What should I do?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

It is too late to take Plan B. An emergency contraceptive is effective if taken within 72 hours of unprotected sex.

Your partner used a condom so you did have protection.

Wait at least three more days before you take a home pregnancy test. The hormone, hCG, can be detected in urine about 12 to 14 days following conception. Add 12 to 14 days to the date that you had sex to determine when you could expect to have detectable hCG levels.
By the way, hCG is called the pregnancy hormone and is produced by cells that form the placenta.

Regards,
Maryann
