Hi Anon

Thanks for reaching out to us with your question!

Otosclerosis is a hereditary condition where the bone overgrows in the inner ear, eventually causing deafness.

The surgery you are talking about - a stapedectomy, is done to help prevent deafness. The doctor will make a space in the inner ear, in order to allow the patient to hear properly. The procedure takes under two hours.

Since you are doing this procedure due to otosclerosis, you have good odds of your hearing improving. Most patients have very successful surgery with a lot of hearing restored.

Your doctor will talk to you about preparing for this surgery and for aftercare.

Good luck!
