My physician said that the pills would not be active until they have been taken for one month, but you should ask you doctor as our brands may vary.
Additionally, recognize that even when on the pill you are not 100% protected and the effectiveness of the pill goes down when it is not take at the same time every single day.

You need to read the packet insert that came with your pills, or if you threw it away, search the brand online and read the FAQ. That will tell you how long you need to use a backup method of birth control. Alternatively, you could call your pharmacist or the prescribing provider and ask. Any of those methods will get you your answer.
