Stressed and worried!

Okay so I lost my virginity on January 6, 2017. I was dumb enough to not make him wear a condom... he pulled out and said he didn't come in me but I can't seem to trust that. I don't have any pregnancy symptoms other than feeling tired. I've also had a lot of gas. My concern is that my periods have came on a 26 day cycle each month since then, but they're a lot lighter than normal! I hear people can still have a period and be pregnant but I've had 5 negative pregnancy test. I've always had OCD and anxiety. Do you think that the stress and anxiety is causing this change in my period? All it does is make me even more worried!

Hello Aaliyah101097,

Welcome again to EmpowHER. Thank you for seeking our help.

Stress and anxiety could very well be the reason your period flow has become lighter. During periods of prolonged high stress, your body produces more of the hormone, cortisol, which does effect the menstrual cycle.

Some women will have spotting during their pregnancies. This is not the same as having a period.

When you have your period, the flow that you see is the lining of your uterus that is being shed.

During pregnancy, the developing fetus is attached to the uterine lining. If you are shedding the lining, you are losing the pregnancy.

Regards,
Maryann
