String of dark red discharge

Sometimes blood in cervical mucus can look like a thin red streak or a red hair-like thin strand. This can occur after your period as residual bleeding, it can also be a sign ovulation which can occur, depending on your cycle, a few days after your period. When a new egg is released, it can cause a small amount of leakage into the cervix and mix with expelled cervical mucus waiting there.
