I have been getting strange turns for 2yrs; dreamlike state, detachments,etc..then i get extremely tired for a few hours after. I was sent to have an MRI and they discovered a subarachnoid cyst with adjacent brian compression. I have also been vomitting, headaches, suicide tendancies ( which i have never had before ) i feel awful. But the neurosurgeon says that this has nothing to do with my cyst, my turns must be something else? I really dont understand this? I have been put on 100mg of lamotrigine which is not helping at all. I would like to know if adjacent brain compression is dangerous and what symptoms would this cause? as well as what is considered large with a subarachnoid cyst. Mine is located in the left frontal lobe. Any help would be welcomed.

Once again thank you Maryann for your expertise, i have to see my Neurologist in December so hopefully i can get more info on the MRI results etc. Thank you.

Hello doctfeelgood,
You must see a new neurosurgeon. Continued, though less frequent seizures, slurred speech and getting your words mixed up are symptoms that cannot be ignored.

I am sorry to hear that your neurosurgeon is not able to give you a reason for your symptoms. I will try to give you whatever information that I can.
Arachnoid cysts are relatively common benign or non-cancerous, cerebrospinal fluid-filled sacs found in the central nervous system. They are usually located within the subarachnoid space, which is the space between the arachnoid membrane and the pia mater, which are both delicate membranes that envelop the brain.
Typical symptoms of an arachnoid cyst around the brain include headache, nausea and vomiting, seizures, hearing and visual disturbances, vertigo, and difficulties with balance and walking.
The frontal lobes of the brain are the area of the brain that control of emotions, judgement, problem solving and sequencing events. I would think that compression of the left frontal lobe by a cyst as large as yours would cause cognitive changes and the tendency for suicidal thoughts.

Thank you Maryann for responding to me it is much appreciated. The Neurosurgeon refused to see me as he does not believe that the cyst is connected to the seizures. I am now on 200mg of Lamotrogine per day. Still getting the seizures but not as frequent. My neurologist also said that my cyst is small??? Besides that i am now experiencing slurred speach and i get my words mixed up....
