Sudden change in nipple size

I have noticed a change in my nipple size this past month. My left nipple has seemed to shrink. I have also lost some sensitivity. I have no idea of what could be causing this. There are no lumps or pain In either one of my breasts. I think this is very unusual, and am unsure if this symptom alone requires a trip to the doctor.
