Swollen and puffy eyelids in the morning and then get flaky, red and sore during the day...

Hi there...

Was just wondering... the last 6-8 weeks, i've been waking up with swollen puffy eyelids - which i first thought was seasonal allergies, but it hasn't stopped. As the day goes on, my eyelids skin will get flaky like exzema, flakes off or just looks horrible... sometimes they're sore, red in areas, very dry and sometimes itchy...

Has anyone experienced this? I've never had any problems with skin problems ever nor many allergies ever either... once in a while in the spring...

I've tried many different kinds of natural creams with no relief! What could be causing this? I'm stumped... when i first went to my doctor, she just sent me home with allergy pills and drops that have done nothing but cost me lots of money....

I'd appreciate any help... with much appreciation...
sincerely, carol :o)

I believe I figured out what was causing my allergy issues; itchy, flaky eyelid in the corners, undereye droopiness, itching along with puffiness, a little stye looking bump on my underlid and rash around nose, a little bit of....BLACK MOLD! I found it in our closet next to the bathroom wall. A year or so ago we had a toilet leak, it was fixed and we went on our merry way, little did we know some water had leaked through to the closet and there it sat, festering. Harley, my hero, kept sniffing in that corner relentlessly until I moved the sock organizer away from the wall and, WALA. Now, you would think we would have taken care of it right away but the carpet needed to be pulled out and a little bit of effort made to clean it up, so for 2 weeks it sat exposed, those nasty little spores making their way to me....slowly making me ill. Yesterday I did a lot of research on all my symptoms and low and behold mold came up....when I got home I donned a painters mask and gloves, made a solution of Pool Chlorine and water, pulled that carpet out and set to killing the silent killer. This morning I do not feel nearly as bad and I don't look like I'm 100 years old anymore.

I have suffered with this for almost 6 months now. I do think Equate Cetaphil and Equate makeup remover cloths aggravate the eyelid area but I have narrowed it down to my "new" metal headboard (probably contains nickel which I am allergic to) or Tide laundry detergent or hairspray or wrinkle-free sheets on my bed which I have heard contain some kind of chemical. I will be going through Allergy testing because I haven't found out which of these is the cause, but know that they all aggravate the situation. Also have inflammatory arthritis so wouldn't doubt it could be things I am eating. Will update after allergy testing.

it sucks and it hurts a lot!!! i don't wear make up at all so i don't need make up remover wipes. but i find my eyes puffy red swollen and even itchy in the morning when i wake up it's been like that for like 4 days even more now. i don't know what to do about it it even causes me to have weird blurry vision here and there . but to help you out a doctor said to but cold bags or even a cold wet towel on your eyes to help the redness and the swelling. i hate this and i know you do too. i hope you get better! :)

My eyes are like that right now, I have extremely sensitive skin and eczema. What makeup wipes or remover do you use, i think that it's my makeup remover wipes, if you use the equate ones maybe stop, because as soon as I put it on my face it feels irritated.

It goes away in about a week.

Do any of you have a recommendation for a natural laundry detergent that worked for your eye flare ups? I swapped out the detergent I was using and grabbed Arm and Hammer for Sensitive Skin. My eyes are still puffy and am hoping to try one more type before looking for another cause. Thank you for your suggestions!

I have experieced those exact symptoms twice over the past 2 weeks. The first time I was visiting family in Atlanta. I go there every year over the April school break and I have never reacted to pollen before, but I just assumed that's what it was. I took Benadril for a couple days and it cleared right up. A week after returning home it happend again. Wake up in the morning with extremely red, puffy, itchy eyelids. By the end of the day the lids almost feel like an open slit has formed with patches of dry, hard skin. I started on the Benadril again and it cleared up within two days. For the patches of dry skin I put some Gold Bond cream on a Q-tip and worked it into the skin. I know this sounds disgusting, but large areas of severely dry skin came right off revealing normal, soft skin underneath. So strange. I've never had seasonal allergies or had an allergic reaction to anything in my life, soaps, make-up, nothing. All clear now and I stopped the Benadril.
