Hello, my urethral opening is swollen. This is giving me extreme amounts of pain when I walk or even sit a certain way. Ive also experienced sharp pains coming from my abdominal area. Ive recently started a new birth control pill and I wonder if I am getting these symptoms because of it. It doesn't hurt when I urinate and I do not have any strange discharge. Ive recently been tested for sti's and std's and all of my results came back negative.

Guide

Hi Anon -

Is there any chance that you had some type of injury occur that's causing the inflammation? Trauma to the urethra is not common, however it can cause significant problems. Injury can cause leakage of urine into surrounding tissues and result in swelling, inflammation, infection and abdominal pain. Urethral trauma can also cause the inability to urinate, retention of urine in the bladder and blood in the urine.

Since you have mentioned experiencing sharp pains in your abdominal area it would be in your best interest to see a medical professional to get checked out and to make sure that you don't have a serious problem. Let us know what you find out. We wish the best for you.

Hope that helps,

Pam
