Q:

Swollen uterus after menstruation. What can it be?

It's been 7 days till the beginning of my period. Today is the last day. Although, I've been feeling a swollen abdomen, and under the belly button, in the uterus zone, I just felt it was swelling too. It's been swelling 21 days ago, 2/3 days before my ovulation. Along with this swelling, my breasts increased, increasing the same day my belly/uterus felt swollen. I think it's relevant to say my period seemed normal to me, with a normal amount of blood and intensity. My question is: what are the possible causes for this swelling on the uterus? I feel no pain, it's just that swelling.

One more question: this may be a bit dumb from myself, but I've masturbated with my boyfriend 25 days ago. No fingers inside my vagina and he just touched me with his hands. He cleaned them before touching me. I was afraid I was pregnant before of that (I've read on the Internet it's possible...) but my another question is: as I menstruated, it's not possible to be pregnant, right? This swelling has nothing to do with it, right? (I just read some stuff on the internet as well that there were some situations where some women menstruated till their 5th month of pregnancy... so, here's why I'm asking...)
Thank you for your attention

Some women do have a menstrual cycle or some show of blood even when pregnant. It's not usual but it definitely can happen.

Hi juliarezende,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

The swollen uterus is known as bloating. Bloating during a woman's menstrual cycle is a common occurence. It typically occurs in the pre-menstrual or PMS stage.

Usually, if you have your menstrual cycle, then you are not pregnant. however, if you engaged in unprotected sex your risks for pregnancy increase. Outside of what you described, did you engage in any other sexual activity that was unprotected?

Remember, that you can experience irregular menstrual cycles due to hormones fluctuating. If you are at all concerned about pregnancy, you can always take a home pregnancy test to rule it out.

Be well,

Hi, ~Gillette,
Well, the thing is: this started like 2 weeks before my period and it's persisting after the period came. My menstrual cycle is really irregular though.
I had no other sexual activities after what I described. It was my first ''sexual experience'' ever. You said that usually, if I have my menstrual cycle, then I'm not pregnant. But, usually? Is it really possible to be pregnant, even after menstruation?
I'm concerned, but at the same time, I'm not, since I menstruated... But this bloating confuses me.. I don't really know if I should take a pregnancy test...
Regards,
juliarezende
