Thinking about having a baby with my new partner?

Normally thinking about having a baby would seem like a normal, but I am HIV positive and my partner is HIV negative. My main concern is will I pass HIV to my partner and if/when I become pregnant will I pass it onto my baby. Forgot to say here I am not on any medications at the moment my CD4 is about 500 and my viral load is about 1500. I have been normally well for a number of years and this relationship (knowing him for over 5 years), but we started to get serious about 9 months ago. By the way, he knows my status. So my question again is I am thinking of having a baby and I am looking for some guidance before I make a decision. Can you help?

Hi micant,
Thank you for your question and welcome to Empowher. Here is a fact sheet that will answer any questions that you may have for pregnancy and HIV http://www.aidsinfo.nih.gov/contentfiles/Perinatal_FS_en.pdf.

Have you talked to your primary care physician about your interest in becoming pregnant? You and your partner should go together so you both can determine all the risks that are involved. I hope this information helps. Please let us know.

Good luck. Missie
