This is just an odd feeling for me. I have always had sore breast pryor but never to the extent of hard to wear a bra. I am concerned if this is something that i should call my ob/gyn about.

Yes, it would be a good decision to at least call your doctor and talk with the nurse about your new symptoms!

Hi, I am 18 years of age and my boyfriend and I had sex on November 13th which was twelve days after the start of my last period. He did not ejaculate inside of me but I am worried about the pre-cum. On November 18th, that night, my nipples had a tingling feeling in them and then my breasts started to feel a little tender. I am on birth control but I am taking doxycline for acne. My face is also breaking out. So do you think that I could be pregnant or could it just be from my period coming because it is due to come on November 23rd?

Hi Anonymous,
Thanks for your question and for finding EmpowHER. You are on birth control and used the withdrawal method--together those are pretty effective at preventing pregnancy. Agreed that some antibiotics can decrease effectiveness of birth control, and that's where that backup method (withdrawal method) is a great idea. You'll be fine, no worries. Great job at protecting yourself.
Acne is a normal premenstrual symptom for some women. If the symptoms you are experiencing persist (for a few weeks), become unbearable, or you happen to not get your period, something else could be going on, and you may want to get an appointment with your doctor.
Good luck and let us know how you are doing.

I'm a 21 year old college student. My breasts, mainly the left one, has been itching on and off for about a few weeks. I didn't think anything about it at first, but the thought of cancer popped in my head a few nights ago. It hasn't been itching for the past few days, but I think my left breast might be slightly larger than my right one. I know I'm not pregnant. Could it be cancer?

Hi Anonymous,
The itchiness you are experiencing could be a number of things. Do you have skin sensitivity elsewhere, besides for your breasts? Did you recently start using a new lotion, or soap? You may want to try switching to a non-irritating lotion or soap to see if it's just dry or irritated skin.
However if you are experiencing other symptoms such as redness, warmth, pain in the breast, and dimpling in addition to the itchiness, you may want to get it checked out to rule out an infection or some other condition. I hope this isn't what got you thinking about it, but here is an article on imflammatory breast cancer:
Inflammatory Breast Cancer Advocacy Sheet
It also may be important to note that most women's breasts are not exactly the same size. One commonly is larger than the other one. Here is more information on that. I realize this is geared toward adolescent girls, but it also explains what is considered "normal":
Are My Breasts Normal?
Good luck!

I've had the same problems with my left breast. Soreness, pain and swollen breast. Ever since I quit caffeine, all symptoms have disappeared. Try it and see if it helps. I love caffeine, but I don't like what it does to my body. I was also having shortness of breath and felt bloated all the time. Now I feel like a new person.
Hope this helps. Joanne

Hi, So My question is does having a tingling sensation in your breast always mean that you are pregnant? I take birth control every day and have not missed it, but my boyfriend and I have had unprotected sex. We did last Tuesday (it's only been 6 days) and I have a tingling sensation in one of my breasts. Now everything online shows that I would be, but is there another reason because even when he was about to ejaculate he does not go inside me. I know there is pre-cum and I know that can also make you preganant and that's why I'm worried. I know I need to call my gyno I just want someone else's opinion. My breasts also are not tender or sore. So this is my dillema, I would definately like other peoples imput. Thank you.

Tingling breasts do not mean you are pregnant. There are many possible causes for the tingling.

I am confused. If you take birth control every day and never miss it, how can you have unprotected sex?

I would not be concerned at all about pregnancy if the only symptom was the tingling. Hope this helped.
