Tips to help stimulate ovarian function?

When I was 13 years old, I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. I had a tumor resected from my left ovary that was the size of a grapefruit and one taken from my right ovary that was the size of a golf ball. I am now 19, married and trying to concieve. I have been using Ovulation Predictor kits to try to pinpoint my ovulation to increase our chances. Problem is, I have an LH Surge every day. I also produce extremely high levels of estrogen. But I have a low egg count per cycle. My menstrual cycle is only 19 days long, so I get my period about every 2 weeks. My doctor suggested I try hormonal therapy to stimulate my ovaries. But, the hormonal therapy (Progesterone) would also act as a contraceptive, so it wouldn't help me get pregnant. So I was wondering, if you could help me find another way to help stimulate my ovarian function without using hormones. Maybe some herb I could take or a diet? Maybe even an exercise. I'm looking for any way to help increase my egg production so I have a higher chance of getting pregnant. If you can help, please let me know. I'm willing to try anything.

We have heard from our medical expert (Missie submitted a question on your behalf), and his comment is:

"I think our best advice is that with a gynecological history as
complicated as hers it is extremely important that she be treated by a specialist in gynecological endocrinology and infertility. The issues are beyond the training and experience of gynecologists who do not
specialize in this field."

Do you feel you have a doctor who specializes in these areas mentioned above?

I also wanted to acknowledge how difficult that must have been to be diagnosed with ovarian cancer at such a young age! Do you have a family history of ovarian cancer? What symptoms were you experiencing?

Progesterone is actually an important hormone in pregnancy, and the best thing for you to do is talk with your doctor about the exact prescription you are taking. Is the prescription to help your fertility, and to help you conceive (by stimulating your ovaries)?

Regarding your other questions, there are suggestions to help women improve their fertility in relation to diet and exercise, and you can read the articles below:
- Fertility Boosting Foods
- Fertility Herbs: Do they work?

Hope this helps---let us know if you have any additional questions, and please call your doctor to ask him/her questions about your specific diagnosis and treatment (part of the treatment process is telling your doctor you are TTC--trying to conceive--, so that any drugs given are safe during early pregnancy, or your doctor would tell you that you need to wait before TTC until after treatment has concluded). This is an important conversation to have with your doctor!
