Q:

Took birth control for 12 days and then stopped. When should I expect my period again?

I had started birth control for the first time on Oct 31, the same day as my period. I took the pill the same time every day, but my period continued for 12 days. I then stopped taking it 12 days in, and my period continued for 3 more days after that and ended. I know I threw my cycle out of wack, but my question is when should I expect my period again? Since I had it for two weeks starting the pill, and now that I am no longer on it, will my cycle still be 28 days from that 15 days it stopped? I am just so confused. I have an important occasion the 19th of December and would love to have my period before then.

Hello aeobena,

Welcome to the EmpowHER community and thank you for reaching out to us with your question.

You start taking the active birth control pills on the day after you finish your period. Since you didn't, you upset the hormonal balance that regulates your menstrual cycle.

I do not know when your period for December could start. This is a question for your gynecologist.

Regards,
Maryann
