Venous lake on my lip

I have this dark blue/purple lesion on my lip that keeps getting bigger. I went to see the dermatologist and she said that it's a venous lake. She said it was nothing I had to worry about. Does anyone else have one or know of someone who does? If so, what was your/their treatment?

I have had a venous lake on my lower lip for about 4 years. My dermatologist says that it is too large for him to laser and tells me to just live with it. I, too, am asked by people what is wrong with my lip and have been told that it is "scary." I am looking for a good vascular or plastic surgeon in the Philadephia, PA region. Anyone have any experience with any University of Pennsylvania docs who might be able to help?

I posted below about my treatment. I am the 57 year old woman who has had laser treatment for one I have had for about 30 years. I don't know how large yours is but mine was larger than the size of a pencil eraser. Laser treatments are working but because of the size, it is taking several treatments. I hope you find someone to take care of this for you. The sooner it's treated I was told the easier it is to treat. Good luck.

does anyone know if there is a doctor in Miami that can remove my venous lake. I have had it for about 6 years (i was accidentally hit on the lip). It doesn't hurt and its never bled, i just don't want it anymore on my lip. Lipstick doesn't cover it, it actually looks bigger when i wear lipstick. I have no insurance, and went to my doctor on friday who told me what it was and recommended a couple of dermatologists. I decided to google it and i found this website with people with the same diagnostic. I live in Miami, FL. and would really like to hear from someone in the area that maybe is going thru the same situation. Thank you

there seems to be alot more to learn and research in the medical community on this subject. It seems hit and miss with no real solution yet.

Hi Anon - You can find a Vascular Specialist by going to the Vascular Disease Foundation website and searching by state for a physician. You might also want to see if there are any online patient support groups in your area and ask other patients for suggestions. Take care, Pat

I had mine develop 30 years ago, and I immediately went to dermatologist in area, he cut it and cauterized it. This helped buy left a little scar. Within 5 years it was back again, this time to the left side of my small scar. I had it lasered several times, helped for about 5 more years. Then I had another type of procedure done to it--I believe by another dermatologist--which helped once again for a time.

Today it is probably 4 times larger than what I started with 30 years ago. It never really bothered me until this year. I had a root canal on my bottom tooth and I guess from all the things the dentist was doing it swelled up immensely--had to ice it for 2 weeks. IT never has bled.

I want to get rid of it.. It is very noticeable. I definitely feel I need some type of surgeon to look at it. I am in NJ--willing to go to NJ-PA-NY area to an experienced doctor.

Can anyone make a recommendation---

Thansk

He only had to zap it one time with a Laser...on my receipt under procedure, it just says...
"Cosmetics-LSVeins" It does not say which type of Laser he used..as I found out their are differant types of Lasers...but he told me prior to the procedure that he has 99% sucess rate...I was skeptical of course... another Dermatologist had Lasered it (12 x's) over a two year period...and it NEVER went away. (waste of $$$) my Venous Lake is now GONE, GONE, GONE.... it has been gone sinse January 2010.
