Q:

Very Strong Pregnancy Symptoms, But Testing Negative?

It all started three months ago, when I started experiencing extreme and very unusual fatigue. Even after sleeping well, I would need a nap in the afternoon. I couldn't last until eight at night, and was often in bed by then, sleeping. I started getting bloated way before expecting my period and spotted for the first time. Also had a strange metallic taste in my mouth one morning only. I started noticing that my areola's were changing, growing larger, darker and puffy. My breasts started swelling up and are extremely tender and sometimes tingle. Later on they would sometimes hurt on the sides. Had localized pain behind the one nipple. After that my attention was diverted to my stomach where I could see a brownish line forming on it. Also started noticing that my white birthmark that looks like a flame looks a lot more obvious, which means my skin had gotten darker. I had to go to the loo more often, and started charting how often. On average, I needed to go every hour and also got hungry every hour, but couldn't eat much before feeling full. I also started getting nauseous, but didn't ever throw up. Although there were a few close calls when brushing my teeth. Suddenly I could smell stuff from the other side of the house. The smell of frying meat and coffee made me ill for weeks. For three weeks I lived on toast and mash. Then later soup was added to the mix. Since last week I would get ravenous for two or three days and eat like a horse, other days not really more hungry than before. I've been having very vivid dreams about pregnancy tests being positive and bees, also small baby birds. I've had so many symptoms that I don't think you'll appreciate me putting them all here, but here are a few more; nosebleeds when I blow my nose, stuffy and then runny nose, indigestion and heartburn (two or three times), cravings, constipation and diarrhea, crying when I see cute animals or babies, back ache, cramps, burning lower belly, whitish yellowish discharge, stringy brown discharge sometime ago (sorry tmi).

Please bear with me, I've done home pregnancy tests and they're all negative. I had a bloodtest and that was negative too. I have been bleeding abnormally every 23 days since three months ago. Before that it was every 29 days and would last 4 to 5 days. Please don't tell me to go see a doctor, I already have. With a previous pregnancy I didn't test positive until much later and it seems to be progressive.
I do have protein and sugar in my urine (which I also had with a previous pregnancy), but the doctor tested my blood sugar which was normal. My stomach feels heavy and I can feel my posture has changed in the last few weeks.
My stomach is expanding and if I'm pregnant I would be 14 weeks. My stomach is now visibly 'pregnant'. Any support and advice would be appreciated.
P.S. I'm very religious so I prayed one night for an answer. I dreamed there were clusters of growths and hiding in the middle was a fetus. I tend to have prophetic dreams, so I really can't discount this. Also see babies everywhere all of a sudden. Two family members I haven't seen in a while dreamt I was pregnant.

Hi Anige,

If you are having pain, your doctor can suggest for you to have an pelvic ultrasound.  It's impossible to know what can be causing all these symptoms, without having imaging test done.  It can be caused by many things, ovarian cysts, Appendicitis, Bladder disorders, Sexually transmitted diseases, Kidney infection or kidney stones, Intestinal disorders, Ectopic pregnancy, Miscarriage, Pelvic inflammatory disease and many other conditions. Hope this helps

Best,

Daisy

Sorry, forgot to log in. I've also had a sharp pain that came and went on the inside of my left hip yesterday. Today it's joint pain in the left hip area. Haven't been doing anything to cause this.

Thanks Daisy, I do appreciate that. Unfortunately I can't have an ultrasound if I don't test positive. If I request one, I have to pay for it. That's close to R500 or 50 dollars roughly. The country I'm living in is South Africa. I just want some opinions on the symptoms, because I've already paid alot of money just for the urine tests and papsmear. The papsmear came back normal, so I don't think I have cancer or anything like that. The doctor did say my uterus is/feels enlarged. I'm going to wait and see if I experience any movement in the future. My biggest concern isif it's a real or false pregnancy.

 Hi Anige,

Welcome to EmpowHER.  Sorry you feel this way and don't want to hear this.  But it's important to let your doctor know of all this.  If your home pregnancy test and blood work done at the doctors are negative.  The only way to know indeed if you are pregnant is doing an imaging test such as an ultrasound.  The only person that can referred this, is a doctor.  It can also reveal any other condition that can also be causing these symptoms.

Best,

Daisy
