Hi,
Pericarditis is not contagious (it is the inflammation of the fluid-filled sac around the heart), but if your boyfriend has been diagnosed with pericarditis that is caused by a viral infection, then it is important to know what the viral infection is caused from. The viral infection that caused the pericarditis may/may not be contagious, if left untreated.

Is he undergoing treatment for the viral infection, or to reduce the inflammation from his pericarditis? Can he call his doctor, and ask what type of viral infection caused his condition, and if this virus is contagious?
