A week ago I took a hard face first on cement fall. I got a big gash on the bridge of my nose, two black eyes, a busted upper lip and road rash on my cheek. Everything seems to be healing up, but since the swelling on my lip went down, I have now developed a upper lip twitch. I can't purse my lips, or seal them, like to swish mouth wash. Do you think this is just temporary nerve damage from the trauma? How long before it should go away?
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Tamasita,
So glad that you were checked out in the ER and had imaging scans that were negative. Mostly likely, the involuntary nerve twitching is caused by the injury and the beginning of the healing process. If you don't notice any improvement,in the next 2 weeks, you should notify your doctor. Though you hate going to the doctor, and who really likes going, you don't want to overlook a problem.

Yes, I did have to go to the ER that night to get the cut to stop bledding, x rays and MRI all clear. It's just this out of control nerve twiching thing currently. Maybe it's a sign of healing? Thanks for your response. I hate going to the doctor!

Hi,
That was quite a fall! The tingling sensation and being unable to purse your lips is most likely the result of facial trauma. Were you examined in the ER following the fall? Have you been seen in a follow-up visit with your primary care physician? As you are well aware, we are communicating over the internet, I am not a physician and I can not see or evaluate your injury or the symptoms. Your doctor is your best resource for determining the cause and duration of your symptoms. Keep us posted.
